2015 SG-VHV partner with CC Walmart & CCISD to STUFF THE BUS!

Star Group Veterans Helping Veterans has partnered with Copperas Cove Walmart & Copperas Cove Independent School District to Fill the Bus. During the weekend of August 7th, 8th and 9th they are asking everyone to come out ans support the effort to Fill the Bus in order to help the students who may need assistance with their school supplies.

Local officials and U.S. Rep. Roger Williams, R-Austin, helped Wal-Mart, Star Group-Veterans Helping Veterans and Copperas Cove Independent School District start off the tax-free weekend Friday by cutting a ribbon to officially open the Stuff the Bus event.
The collaboration aims to fill a school bus with school supplies for Cove students from low-income families who may be unable to afford all the needed supplies.

“I think this is a great thing when you have a whole community come out,” Star Group president Jonathan Haywood said. “Most of the credit has to go to Wendy Sledd of CCISD.  She just needs to be commended on doing such an outstanding job.” Once contacted she took the project on her back!

Haywood said a special thank you was needed for the local officials and Williams for taking the time to show their support for the students of Cove most in need of assistance.

Star Group Veterans Helping Veterans served free hot dogs, chips and drinks to anyone who made a donation. All monetary donations will be used to buy whatever supplies come up short. "Every single penny will be used for school supplies for our kids in need. Just to help out all these people out here to continue making a difference for our children is going to make this a blessed weekend,” he said.

Copperas Cove Wal-Mart started off the event with dozens of employees carrying out $1,000 worth of school supplies to place on the bus. "This is awesome. All the organizations involved in this have done a wonderful job, the (Wal-Mart) associates are awesome, the customers are bringing in stuff so it’s going to be a great weekend,” store manager Bobby Pruitt said.
Wal-Mart will be presenting gift certificates to each of the teachers at Hettie Halstead Elementary School, redeemable for any additional supplies they may need for their classrooms, he said. “I don’t think there will be a problem at all filling this bus, not with the support we’ve seen so far.”

Hopefully everyone will come out and support!
