SGVHV attends Fort Hood NCO & Solider of the Year Ceremony

On Thursday, August 29, 2019 at the Phantom Warrior Center on Fort Hood Star Group Veterans Helping Veterans Advisory Committee  Member, Mr. John Cook, attended the Command Sergeant Major, III Corp  and Fort Hood Ceremony for the Ford Hood NCO and Soldier of the Year Award.

Command Sgt. Maj. Maurice Jackson, III Corps Task Force Phantom Command Sergeant Major, spoke at the presentation and said Nixson and Hamby are role models to emulate. The NCO and Soldier of the Year Competition recognizes those warriors who demonstrate commitment to the Army Values, to the Warrior’s Ethos, and they represent the force of the future,” Jackson said. “You set the example for all those to follow.”

The recognition and the winner of this prestigious award was given to the following:

Fort Hood NCO of the Year
SSG Michael W. Nixson
89th Military Police Brigade
Fort Hood

Fort Hood Solider of the Year
SPC David A. Chambers
3rd Cavalry Regiment
Fort Hood

Sgt. Tylor C. Hamby, a satellite communication systems operator and maintainer with the Command Post Node Team, 1st Cav. Div. Artillery, was recognized as the Soldier of the Year. Hamby was promoted to sergeant that morning, before the presentation.

SSG Nixson stated the competition emphasized being able to quickly switch between physical and mental challenges.
“Much of this competition was knowledge-based was more than what I was expecting,” he said. “Everyone’s real hungry to win, so you gotta stay sharp.”

Nixson will continue to represent III Corps at the U.S. Army Forces Command Best Warrior Competition at Fort Bragg, N.C. If he is successful there, he will go on to compete for a chance to be named Army NCO of the Year.
It’s another challenge along the way, but I’m excited, and ready to get to it,” Nixson concluded.
